Body Waxing

Temporary Removal of Unwanted Hair

Waxing is a temporary means of removing unwanted hair that some opt to use instead of the more time intensive process of permanent hair removal by electrolysis. For women, the most common areas that are waxed are the eyebrows, forearms, legs, and bikini area. For men, the back, chest, and legs are most commonly waxed. Those being waxed in the more intimate areas are given time to undress in privacy and drape themselves accordingly.

The procedure is relatively simple. Warm honey bee wax, one of the most mild types of wax, is applied to small areas of the skin with a spatula. A muslin strip is then applied over the wax and smoothed down. The strip is then removed with a quick pull in the opposite direction of hair growth, and a smooth, clean surface is the result. After the entire area has been waxed, a cooling cream is applied to the fresh bare skin.

Warning: Those taking the oral medication Accutane or using the topical preparation Retin-A or Differin are not suitable candidates for facial waxing. Under certain conditions, Retin-A users may undergo waxing if they stop applying the cream one week before and one week after the procedure. Please discuss your medications when making an appointment.

For 24 hours before and after a waxing procedure, clients should avoid sun exposure and tanning beds due to the particularly sensitive condition of the skin.
